'Thanks, ___.' was what he had said. And with just those two words he had made me extremely happy. I smiled back at him and eventually let go. Thanks to all this excitement I had a less clouded mind. Of course I wasn't sober but at least I

“I think we should get back.”
“Yeah...”, he said after a while and got up as well. “A-And let's not tell the others about this. It would just get you in trouble.”
“I think I know what you mean. Yes, I won't say anything. But-...But I won't act like it never happened, Rocket. Because it did happen.”
He stood there, staring at me for a few seconds. “Yes, it did. Let's go.”

Then we left the bar. With mixed feelings, still a little dizzy and with a big smile on my face. As we arrived at the Milano I saw Peter coming towards us.
“ARE YOU CRAZY?! We've been waiting for two hours now!!
“Huh? I didn't rea-”, I started but he just grabbed my arm and dragged me inside.
“Someone's searching for me. More than just one guy. But they don't know what my ship looks like so- Let's just hurry!”, said Peter and I looked back to see Rocket running after us.

A few moments later we were back in space and Peter finally calmed down.
“DAMN, ___! Where were you two?! We were in real trouble!! You said you'd stay here and- Wait, WERE YOU DRINKING?! I can smell it!! You two are drunk! What did you do?!”

Drax approached me and inhaled the air around me. “They have drunken alcohol.”, he said and I started to chuckle.
“Yeah, we did! So what? We were just having fun, Peter! It's not our fault that you keep messing with the wrong people!”, I said and laughed just louder.
Then I saw Gamora who had a few bruises across her face but I was still to drunk to care. “I'll go and sleep, yes? I'm tired as fuck.”, I said and waved.
“Yeah, fuck you too.”, mumbled Peter as I left.

I went to my own little chamber. When I was still new Peter could tell that I wouldn't want to sleep in one room with all those strangers and even though I didn't say anything he had put a mattress into a very small room. There wasn't much space but for a bed it was enough. After a few days we stopped on Xandar to buy me an actual bed. I told him that I wouldn't mind sleeping in a room with everyone else but suddenly he started talking about how a certain crew member might be staring at me the wrong way. Of course he was talking about Drax. I really didn't care about that but he insisted on it. So now I had this little room for myself.

I closed the door behind me and crawled into my bed. I immediately fell asleep. I haven't realized how tired I was until I saw my bed.

~About five hours later~

I was woken up by an extremely strong earthquake. Well, at first I believed it was an earthquake but then I remembered that there were no earthquakes in space. Then I heard Peter scream something I couldn't understand. The whole ship was shaking and I had troubles getting up without falling.

I quickly changed into my uniform and ran out to the others. Peter came rushing toward me. “___! We've been hit! Rocket is landing the ship but there are some bastards shooting at us! We need to defeat them quickly or they'll destroy the Milano!”, he shouted and ran past me to get his weapons. For some reason Peter didn't look scared at all. He was angry and annoyed but not scared.
However, I was. I was scared of what could lay ahead of us. I wasn't sure whether we were in actual danger or not. It couldn't be that bad. I had the Guardians of the Galaxy with me so why was I so scared? What would happen if those 'bastards' managed to destroy the Milano? Then we would be stuck. Oh god, I had to calm down.

Then I rushed toward the cockpit. Peter said that Rocket was landing the ship so I had to get there. The ship was shaking though so it was hard to get there without loosing balance.

“Rocket! What's- What's going on?!”, I called as soon as I saw him. And then I looked out of the front and my eyes widened. In front of us there was a big and red planet. It looked a bit like the Mars. Wait. So we were going to land there? And then fight off the enemies to protect the ship?
I rushed to Rocket's side and then saw Groot. He had grown a lot recently. He was helping Rocket landing the ship.

“We're landing! Obviously!”, he shouted and let out a hiss as the ship shook once more. “Sit down, idiot! Or your brains will be all over the place!”

He was right. We were probably going to crash onto the ground. I squeezed his shoulder for a short second before I rushed to the seat in the back and fastened my seatbelts.
“Don't die on me, you whore!”, screamed Rocket as he slammed his hand on various buttons. I could already make out the planet's surface. It looked like a giant desert in red. Unlike the Mars there were no rocks or craters. There was nothing but this red sand.

And then Rocket pulled the Milano up for one last time before we met the ground. The impact was strong enough to send my head fly forward but the glass of the cockpit was unharmed. The rest of the ship also seemed to be in tact because Rocket gave me a triumphant smile.
“We made it! Now we gotta kill those pieces of shit that did this to our ship!”

“I am Groot.” I flinched. I didn't realize that Groot had come over to me. As I looked down I saw him trying to free me of my seatbelts. As he finally managed to get them off me he smiled. “I...am Groot.”, he whispered and pulled on my hand. I got up, expecting he was going to let go but he didn't. He held onto my hand and looked at Rocket.

“Groot said he will stay with you. You're not ready to fight yet. You will stay here and wait for us to come back. Understood? Don't leave the ship! It's too dangerous outside.” Rocket said that in a rush. He was about to get out of the cockpit to join the others in the fight they would have very soon.

“Rocket, wait!”, I called and he froze. With a nervous expression he turned around and looked at me. Groot let go of my arm so I could run toward Rocket. I knelt down and pulled him close to me, my face buried in his fur once more. “Don't get yourself hurt. And- And if you don't come back then I'll definitely go and get you. Understood?” I nuzzled into him and smiled.

“Y-Yes...You should know that I'm not easy to kill, ___. Just stay here and wait. If there's something to come back to...I won't be gone for long.”
And then he was gone, leaving me with a red face and this tingling sensation all over my skin. He was the one for me.

~Thirty Minutes Later~

They were still outside. They were fighting while me and Groot stayed inside, gathering all the bandages and medicine just in case someone was hurt. I could hear explosions from outside and soon I couldn't bear waiting any longer. Something had to be wrong. They were the Guardians of the Galaxy. They should have won long ago so something was obviously wrong. Rocket had told me about this new sort of weapon that they were selling on the black market. He said that only a true genius could build them and he also said that if some random thug would get his hands on one of them he would quickly turn into the king of thugs. He didn't explain what exactly the weapon was doing but I saw how he got excited whenever he talked about it.

“G-Groot! Eh-...Groot, listen. I know that we are supposed to stay in here but- I just can't deal with the idea of the others getting hurt! We have to help them! I mean- I know we won't me much help but maybe a little help will eventually decide who will win and who will lose! We have to do...something!”

I expected Groot to try to stop me but I had been wrong. With the most serious expression possible he walked toward a closet, opened it, grabbed a gun and threw it toward me. I caught it and stared at him with wide eyes.

“I...am...Groot.”, he said and grabbed my arm just to run toward the exit while dragging me along. He was acting as if he had been waiting for me to say this. As if he had been waiting to rush and help our friends. No, our family.

As we left the ship I gasped. What laid before us was a battlefield. Dead bodies were spread all over this damn desert. I could see the enemy's ship about hundred meters away from us. It was burning, which explained the explosions, but Rocket and Drax were still fighting. I could see how Gamora was kneeling besides the knocked out Peter. His forehead was bleeding and Gamora was trying to wake him.

There was one thing left though. It was a giant robot who shot at Rocket and Drax as they were trying to bring it down. So this was the weapon that Rocket had talked about. I could see how he fired at it but even his own laser weapon didn't do much damage. Drax, who was using his blades, couldn't do anything at all.

His two long arms were swaying and shooting at the same time. Rocket could dodge them with swift movements but Drax had problems to not get hit. I saw Rocket shooting at that thing again. He had left his rocket launcher inside. Why? Before the fight had started none of them looked very nervous. Did they not expect this? Were they not prepared for a battle that wasn't easy? I gritted my teeth and grabbed Groot's shoulders.
“Groot, where is the weapon that they shot at Ronan?! Rocket's strongest weapon! The name- I forgot the name but-”, I called but Groot understood and we rushed in once more. He soon showed me what I had been looking for.

Seconds later we were back outside again. I was so nervous. So scared and so- I just didn't know. I had no idea what to do. My mind was about to go blank as I saw this horrible scenery again. “How- How do I shoot it?!” I was hysterical. And then Drax got shot in the shoulder and an arm collided with his body, sent him flying and knocked him out. Damn this shit! I had to do something! But what? Someone like me couldn't do much! I couldn't even use this damn weapon!
I aimed the weapon at this damn robot. I couldn't shoot though. Not just because I didn't know how. Rocket was still too close to the machine. I had to tell him to get away from it so I did. Which was a horrible mistake.

“ROCKET! OUT OF THE-”

I wasn't able to finish. As soon as I had called out Rocket's name he turned toward me, staring at me wish shock and...fear? And just a second later one of the arms hit him. Extremely hard. And for some reason then everything happened extremely slow. Rocket's small body was sent flying just like Drax. I could see how he grimaced in pain but soon his face went expressionless and he closed his eyes. I could see how his limbs were just hanging of his body as he was still in the air and I could see how his eyes twitched as he hit the ground with a silent thud about ten meters away from the machine. I could see everything. But as soon as he had hit the ground time started to return to its usual speed and then...Then nothing. I didn't hear a thing. I was too shocked to breath, hear or feel anything. He was lying there completely motionless. I could only stare at his small body.

Was he fine? Why didn't he get up again? Was he...dead? Would he ever get up again? Was this my fault? Yes, it was my fault! I should have- I don't know! What should I have done? What could I have done? What was I supposed to do now? I saw nothing. I heard nothing and I felt nothing. Why did this happen? Whose fault was this? Mine? Mine...I could only stare at Rocket's body. WHY WASN'T HE GETTING UP?! He was dead, right? I felt hot tears run down my cheeks but I didn't remember starting to cry. I killed him though. So I had a reason to cry. He was dead because of me. Oh god, I only tried to help but all I did was making everything worse. I was about to faint. The world around me already started to turn dark. Why was I reacting this way? Why couldn't I move? Why was I feeling like my body was made of stone? When I lost my family I didn't feel like this. I was sad but what I was feeling at the moment was worse than just sadness. I was going crazy. It was actual pain. My body hurt but at the same time it felt numb. Nothing made sense any more and I just wanted to let myself fall and-

Then Groot tugged at my sleeve and pointed toward the robot. It was coming toward me.

“___!! SHOOT!!”, screamed Gamora while covering Peter's body from the coming explosion. Her voice sounded far away and her mouth was moving slowly. So time had started to go crazy again.
Then I finally found the button, pressed it and- The force of the shot was throwing me back on the ground. I heard another explosion and then there was sand everywhere.

I was lying on the ground and for a few seconds I forgot where I was and what was happening but then I saw Groot lean down to shake my shoulder and everything came back, flooding my mind with this awfully bright light. As if someone had opened the blinds that were protecting my brain from the sun.

I got up and immediately. Then I ran. I felt the sand below my shoes. It made running a little harder but I ignored that. I knew that the robot was broken. I saw a few parts of it lying around and there was a lot of smoke. It should have given me troubles to see anything at all but it didn't. All this adrenaline that was now running through my veins gave me super powers. Or at least it felt like it did. Within seconds I had reached the spot where Rocket was lying. And then I fell down to my knees.

“Rocket! Can you hear me? Say something, yes? I'm sorry but say something! Just- Just say something!!”, I screamed and scooped my arm around his figure, picking him up as carefully as possible. “Please say something.”, I whispered and stared down at him.

I checked if he was still breathing. Yes, he was. Then I checked for his heartbeat. It was still beating the way it should be. But for how long? How bad were his injuries? He definitely had a few broken ribs but what if his organs were damaged? I didn't know how to treat those injuries! I was no surgeon! What was I supposed to do?! I just sat there, holding his body in my arms while shaking and sobbing crazily. Why was I feeling this way? Why was I so scared and so sad and so angry and so...everything bad at once? I couldn't help crying, I couldn't help shaking and I couldn't help to pathetically get him to wake up. My words didn't reach him though. No matter how loud I called he didn't hear me. Would he ever hear me again? I couldn't stop asking myself this one question. Was he ever going to wake up again?

“Please...”, I whispered as I got up and ran toward the Milano. I saw Drax who had already gotten up again. He was carrying Peter inside. As I ran past him and entered the ship I could see Gamora who had bandages in her hands. She looked at me and was about to say something but when she saw Rocket she knew what was going on.

“I'll go take care of Peter...”, she said and left. She wasn't questioning me. She didn't look confused about seeing me take care of Rocket and not of Peter. She didn't question me because she could tell. And I knew that she could tell. But I didn't care. I didn't care about her at all right this moment.
I threw everything on the table on the ground with a quick sweep of my arm. And then I placed Rocket on the table, extremely careful to not make his injuries worse, before I rushed toward the locker. I pulled out the small device that I had bought when Peter wasn't looking. I turned it on and ran back to Rocket. He was still not moving at all.

The device I held in my hands was...I forgot the name but I knew what it was for. It used x-rays to find broken bones. Or at least this was what I thought it did. As I held it over Rocket the little screen didn't just show me Rocket's bones though. It also showed me his organs in addition to a lot of strange signs that I could not read. I checked his entire body for injuries.

And what I saw made me cry. Again.
Here it is. I'm not going to say anything about this chapter except for that it's not the last one.

Thanks for waiting. Thanks for the support. Thanks for all this positive feedback. It really makes me happy. ;///;
